Mary Elizabeth Patton is a professional artist based in Lancaster County, PA. Working almost exclusively in oils, Mary Elizabeth's work ranges from the almost abstract renderings of pueblos and landscapes of the American Southwest, and the fascinating realism of her depictions of the people of Africa, to the commissioned portraits for which she is so well known. The common element to these varied bodies of work is her wonderfully deep and dignified, yet extremely skillful approach to each of these subjects. Almost entirely self taught (she has taken some classes at Brooklyn's Pratt Institute of Art and the Moore Institute of Art in Philadelphia), Mary Elizabeth's career as an artist has taken her from being a fashion illustrator in Manhattan, to starting the live model studio at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, to being an art instructor at the Country Day School of Lancaster, PA. In the past fifteen years, her interest in both the African and American Indian cultures has taken her on journeys to Kenya and the American Southwest. It is from these experiences that Mary Elizabeth has drawn both her visual and spiritual inspiration to celebrate through painting, the cultures of the people native to these lands.
