Born and raised near the Baltimore Harbor, Wayne Lucas began life as an avid lover of nature and the arts. Lucas pursued his artistic dreams to the Maryland Institute College of Art and received a BFA in 1963. He then took advantage of his drawing and painting talents for fifteen years before opening a gallery with his wife Bernadine in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1981.

Lucas was primarily known for his acrylic work, his most popular subject- bold and moving scenes of forests and woodlands, before finding his true calling in the medium of paper mache. His whimsical paper mache sculptures of animals, celestial beings and other fabulous characters have been sold to collectors worldwide.

His sculptures and paintings have been shown in various galleries and venues such as the Lancaster Museum of Art and the Keystone Arts and Culture Center.
