Jessica Lee

Jessica Lee is a graduate of York College of Pennsylvania where she received her BA in Fine Art with a minor in art history. She is currently the executive director for the Pennsylvania Arts Experience where she works full-time. She continues to create and exhibit as a professional artist.

Lee focuses on textures, lines, shapes and what she refers to as "surface depth." A sentiment that has held much personal meaning for her is in the Niche quote, "There are no beautiful surfaces without a great and terrible depth." Using this as a metaphor for her own personal struggles and triumphs as a domestic abuse survivor, single parent of a special needs child and sufferer of chronic depression, Lee typically flattens the picture plane and creates instead a depth to her surfaces through translucent layers.

She creates work in bodies or series. One painting is never enough to fully explore a concept. Most recent bodies of work include landscapes of farms and rural lands, geometric topographical landscapes made with vintage dress patterns, and organic abstracts created with chemical reactions and experiments with textures.

Jessica has most recently exhibited at the York Blue Moon, Guthrie Public Library in Hanover, PA, Hufnagel Public Library in Glen Rock, PA, The Sally Little Danyo Members Sales Gallery in the York Art Association, Studio Gallery 234 in York, PA, The York Art Association, Talus Salon in York, PA and other local venues. She won First Place Nonprofessional at the York Art Association’s Annual Spring Members Show in 2015. Lee was accepted into Eye of the Beholder, a juried exhibition by the Maryland Federation of Art in 2009.
