Throughout the years I have experimented with various art mediums. However, since 2004, I have concentrated on metal sculptures, creating each from “found materials.” Working with found materials adds an extra dimension to the creative process. I either search the scrap yard for the appropriate pieces of metal to give form and shape to what I hope is an inspired idea, or conversely, I find an interestingly shaped piece that inspires an artistic idea for a totally different sculpture. Either way the final product derives from objects that, in former incarnations, were utilitarian in nature. Thus, old machine gears, discarded hayforks, sheared pieces of sheet metal or bent “I” beams can be welded together to create three-dimensional art that may be beautiful or thought provoking, but because of its genesis, is always unique.
